Current Start List- 2009
Here is the start list for the race. It has been a mad rush with late entries so if we've over looked you please email and let us know. We will do our best to get everyone a hoodie. No promises if you signed up after 8/1 though. I marked the trail today. It is chossy and dusty. Maybe the rain we are supposed to be getting this weekend will smooth them out. See you at the pre race meeting tomorrow!
Final Instructions
The 50k race will start at 6 a.m. sharp at the day use parking at Cottonwood Lake. (Continue South from Afton approximately 7 miles. Just after the speed limit goes back to 65 leaving Smoot follow the brown Forest Service sign and Turn East. It is about 6 miles to the lake. Allow yourself plenty of time - the road is passable by passenger cars but is narrow and rocky in places. Please drive carefully. It is 30-35 minutes from Afton.)
The 25k race will start at 8:30 sharp at the Intermittent Spring Parking lot East of Afton. (Turn between the fire station and the Lazy-B motel and continue East for about 5 miles.) Car pool if you can, parking is limited at the sprint. Remember it is your responsibility to shuttle back to your car.
Please check in with the race director again before each race starts it is imperative we know who is out on the course for your safety!
There will be Search and Rescue on the course providing medical care and radio communication.
At pre-race check in tonight and tomorrow morning we will have boxes for drop bags. We will have them at the turn around for 50k and the finish for the 25k if you want some warmer clothes, etc.
Crew access only at the start/finish and turn around areas. This is true with drop bags also. Everything else is packed in by horse. Aid stations will provide filtered water/NUUN and basic aid station snacks including peanuts, M&M’s, pretzels, Snickers, and a few energy products. The aid station at the turn around will include all of the above plus melon, pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes, and other goods. The aid at Corral Creek is water only. You shouldn’t need to use it but feel free if you do.
We recommend you pack 2 bottles or a hydration pack so you can stay hydrated.
Follow the pink and blue ribbons. The course is marked heavily at the junctions on the side of the trail you will be turning. If you see several markers in close proximity be looking for a junction. If you come to red ribbons you need to turn around and find the correct trail. If you have questions consult your map. The trail is marked adequately barring any tampering so you can run and not orienteer. Just pay attention!
