I hope all is going well and everyone's training has been great. The late, severe winter has caused a few problems for this years race. The access road to our normal start at Cottonwood Canyon has washed out and will not be open until later. To solve this problem we will run both races as "out and backs" from the swift creek side. The 25k racers will run to corral creek lakes and back and the 50kers will runthe normal course but backwards. Because of the limited access we will not have an aid station at "balls" so those running the 50k will have a 7 mile stretch to the turn around and you will need to carry enough water to get you to Cottonwood. The biggest problem may be camping and parking. To help with this we have done a couple of things. The forest service has been great to open. A campground at the mouth of the canyon for us. Spots will be given out starting friday afternoon on a first come, first serve basis. There is more spots a long the canyon if it feels too crowded. I think we can accomodate everyone as long as you leave your 50 ft. Trailers at home. If this is not enough i am currently working with the school district to use some fields to camp on. To help with the parking we are going to ask that the participants in this years races ride the bus. We will pick up at Star Valley High School at 5 am. And at the campground at 5:15 for the early race. We will pick up at the same locations at 7 and 7:15 for the 25k, then the bus will pick up runners to take them. Back around 1 and 3 pm. If you have family members that want to watch you finish please have them park further down the canyon and have them walk to the finish. If these changes are too much for you, or you can't make it due to another emergency, please let me know and we will gladly roll over your entry or refund your money minus the sweatshirt cost. We do not mail hoodies! Packet pick up will be from 7 to 8:30 Friday at the starview park 1 block east of wells fargo on highway 89. More details will follow. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon. whoa! thanks for the update Ty. sounds like you guys are doing a lot of legwork to again make this a great race. see you in a couple of weeks!
Is it possible for families to hike to Intermittent Springs while they wait for my finish? My husband and kids have never seen the springs.
Is it a big deal if I run the 25K instead of the 50K?
Hiking to the spring is encouraged, though not intermitting right now, and anyone who wants to drop down to25k needs to let me know asap for clerical reasons.
could you please post directions to the campground for the 50k start? thanks
To get to the campground you will need to drive about 1 mile east of afton, turning between the fire station and the Lazy B motel on hwy 89 in Afton.
